PHOTO PROPS FOR THE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION

One of the best parts of the New Year celebration is the opportunity to get dressed up, take amazing photos, and bring in the new year with your favorite people. Alongside your display of food, decor, and lively conversations, a photo booth is a wonderful way to commemorate the day. You will look back on the photos for years to come and photo booths can be customized to fit nearly any party theme. Photo Props for the New Year Celebration

Depending on your New Year’s party theme, you can create DIY photo booth props or buy premade packages that get the job done quickly. Both options are good, but here are some fun photo prop ideas to get you started.

  • Confetti

  • Bubbles

  • LED string lights (or Christmas lights)

  • Sparklers

  • Over-the-top hats

  • Silly scarves

  • Oversized mustaches

  • Face-painting station

  • Classic holiday character plushies

  • Cardboard cut-outs

  • Streamers

You can visit an online prop store or even find silly or elegant props that are handmade on Etsy. Which type of photo props you ultimately decide to use will likely depend on whether you have a theme. Common color choices for New Year’s Eve celebrations are black, white, gold, and silver. But you can think outside the box with rainbow colors, exotic animal prints, masquerade masks, or whatever other fun themes for New Year’s parties that you can think of!

New Year Photo Booth Ideas

It doesn’t have to be complicated to create a memorable New Year photo booth. Here are a few simple options for your photo booth :

  1. Photo Booth Backdrop

You can use a simple backdrop stand with portable backgrounds that range from a basic white background to shimmering tassels to a simple blanket-in-disguise. If you aren’t sure what color of the background is best, check out this guide to in-studio headshot backgrounds to get an idea.

  2. Sturdy wooden frame

If you plan to use your photo booth at all of your events, you might consider building a DIY photo booth frame. You can make it look like a polaroid or even like a picture frame! This option might take more effort, but if you are handy with tools, it might be a no-brainer.

  3. Rent a photo booth

Photo booths don’t have to mean a large box with a crimson curtain! You can rent photo booths that are new and modern and create stunning photos that your guests will love, like the Selfie Booth, or larger options like the Shutter Booth. The big benefit to these types of booths is that you don’t have to stress about what type of camera you need to have and you don’t need a photographer (or a willing friend) to take photos all night long. Some rental options provide props for your photo booth, while others will require you to provide your own party props.

If you don’t plan to rent a photo booth, you will need to make a few decisions for your New Year’s photo booth! You will want to bring photo props for the New Year celebration, good lighting for photography, and a camera.

Lighting Options:

If you are taking photos outside during the day, you might not need any additional lighting. But since this is a New Year photo booth, it is safe to assume that it will be dark and your party will likely be indoors. For smaller setups, you might be perfectly content to use a ring light that has the option to hold your phone in the center, like this one, but for larger photo booths, it might be worth it to invest in some studio panel lights.

Camera:

There are four main options for what camera to use for your photo booth.

  1. Phone cameras. We all have our phones in our pockets anyway, so you can easily let guests “self-serve” the photo booth with their own phones. If you want to be able to see everyone’s photos, you can even come up with a unique party hashtags so that the photos are easy to find on Instagram or Facebook.

  2. Professional photographer. Impress your guests with a photo booth where a pro does all the heavy lifting. Some photographers even offer photo booth packages and will show up at your event, ready to take fun photos of your guests. They might have digital photos to be purchased later or have an instant-print set up to give your guests photos right away.

  3. Disposable cameras. It’s no longer the 90s, but disposable cameras are definitely still a thing. You can purchase multiple cameras and let your guests have a blast taking photos with a vintage vibe.

  4. Polaroid cameras. There are many different options for polaroid cameras today, from the Fujimax to the Kodak Printomatic, and all of them allow you to snap a picture and watch it develop on the spot. With this option, your guests could take two photos - one to take with them and one for the host to keep for their party guest book.

Now that you have an idea of the type of backgrounds, light, camera, and essential photo props for the New Year celebration, it’s time to put it all together and have fun!
